In one paragraph

A family tree is a chart showing how the people in a family are related across generations. MyLegacySpace builds your family tree in three interactive views — fan chart, ancestor line, and hourglass — with photos, stories, and time-capsule messages on every profile. Import from Ancestry or MyHeritage via GEDCOM in one click, or start from scratch. Free on the Free plan.

Three views. One tree.

Most family tree apps give you one view. We give you three — switch between them anytime to see your history in a new light.

Ancestors radiate outward in a beautiful semicircle — see 6+ generations at a glance.

MyLegacySpace family tree — Ancestor Line view

Ancestor Line

Hourglass

Ancestors above, descendants below. The only view that shows your full lineage on a single screen.

What is a family tree?

A family tree is a chart that shows how the people in a family are related — who their parents, grandparents, siblings, and descendants are, and how each generation connects to the next. A modern family tree app lets you explore those connections visually, attach photos and stories to each person, and share your history with relatives.

Why families choose MyLegacySpace

Three views. Three ways to see your story.

Fan chart for scanning generational depth. Ancestor line for tracing a specific branch. Hourglass for seeing ancestors and descendants in one view. Same data — different perspectives.

Import from Ancestry, MyHeritage, or FamilySearch

Export a GEDCOM file from any other platform and import it in one click. All relationships, dates, and life events come across. Export anytime too — your data is always yours.

Every person is their own story

Profiles hold photos, life events, stories, favorite songs, and time-capsule messages. Not just dates on a chart — people with dimension.

How it works

  1. 1

Start with yourself — or import your tree

Add yourself, parents, grandparents, and siblings one at a time, or import a GEDCOM file exported from Ancestry, MyHeritage, or FamilySearch and have hundreds of ancestors added in a single click.

  2. 2

Choose a view that matches your story

Switch between fan chart, ancestor line, and hourglass at any time. The data stays the same — only the way you see it changes. Different views reveal different patterns.

  3. 3

Make every person more than a name

Attach photos, life events, stories, favorite songs, and time-capsule messages to each profile. Invite family members to contribute their own memories. Build a tree that actually means something.

Why MyLegacySpace

Most family tree apps give you one view and a list of names. We give you three interactive views and treat every person as someone with a story to tell. Because a family tree shouldn't just be a chart — it should be a place worth visiting.

Questions about building a family tree

Is the MyLegacySpace family tree builder really free?
Yes. The Free plan includes a full family tree with every view type, unlimited people in your tree, and 2GB of storage for photos and documents. No credit card required to start. Paid plans add more storage and advanced features like AI research and Legacy Links.
How many people can I add to my family tree?
There is no hard limit on the number of people in your tree on any plan. Storage limits apply to photos, videos, and documents attached to profiles — 2GB on Free, 15GB on Family, unlimited on Legacy Pro. You can have thousands of ancestors in the tree itself without hitting any cap.
Can I import my family tree from Ancestry or MyHeritage?
Yes. Export a GEDCOM file from Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch, Geni, WikiTree, or any other genealogy platform and import it into MyLegacySpace in one click. All relationships, birth and death dates, and life events transfer over. You can also export your MyLegacySpace tree back to GEDCOM anytime — your data belongs to you.
What is a fan chart, and how is it different from a pedigree chart?
A fan chart is a family tree view where ancestors radiate outward from the central person in a semicircle, letting you see 6 or more generations on a single screen. A pedigree chart is the traditional top-down layout with one person at the top and ancestors branching up. Fan charts are better for scanning large generational depth; pedigree charts are better for following a specific line.
Can I invite family members to help build the tree?
Yes. Send invite links to relatives and they can claim their own profile in your tree, add their own photos and memories, and optionally build out their branches. You control permissions — who can view, edit, or add people. Everyone is on one shared tree instead of fragmented across separate accounts.
Can I export my family tree if I want to leave?
Yes. Export your entire tree as a GEDCOM file at any time, on any plan, at no cost. Your photos and documents can also be downloaded. We believe your family history is yours — lock-in would be unethical for data this meaningful.
Does MyLegacySpace support DNA matching?
Not directly — we are not a DNA testing service. But you can import test results and known DNA connections from services like AncestryDNA or 23andMe into your tree as relationship notes, and our Legacy Links feature (Family plan and higher) finds shared ancestors when two MyLegacySpace trees overlap.
